Sun Spots

May marks the beginning of summer.  Growing up, the last day of the school year came at the end of May. Who didn’t look forward to that?!  The days are getting longer.  The sun shines brighter.  A whole realm of possibilities opens up — those hazy, lazy, crazy days of summer.

Each summer my God-daughter comes over and spends a few days with me.  We move from activity to activity, and each night we tumble into our beds totally exhausted.  I don’t know what all she dreams about, but I dreamt of Fairy Gardens. (It was probably as a result of one too many Disney movies.)Alexandra's Visit 080414 010 optPlanting our gardens

The finished gardens.

Thoughts of those little fairy gardens resulted in little glass Sun Spots.  _DSC3861_150ppi

They look delicate and yet they are sturdy. I enjoyed watching  people interact with them at last weekend’s Glass Gallery Show.  Each and every last one of them were sold by the time the show was over.  I think that hazy, lazy, crazy day last summer with my God-daughter was a very good day.

The Glass Gallery Show jump started my summer.  Some of you came from places near and far – and I want to thank you for coming to see me.  I’m inspired to make art all through the month of May – and beyond.
